£21,086 grant awarded for Playground Equipment for Kehelland Village School. The new fixed play equipment has proved very popular. It has encouraged more movement and role play, which the boat in particular facilitates, this in turn aids concentration in class and has prompted the school to start another new initiative, the daily mile. All children and teachers now run a mile before the day starts as the benefits of more physical activity is really starting to show in the classroom. All of the equipment has seen increased engagement in activities at play time and in learning time that are helping to develop movement, motor skills, speech and language which the school has seen less developed in recent years, particularly since the pandemic. The equipment is certainly contributing in a very positive way to the children’s development, and giving teachers, particularly in reception, more opportunities to carry out a wider range of activities and learning.
“I love our new play equipment because every day there is something new to play on, it doesn’t matter who you are or your age it is fun no matter what. The bright array of colours makes it an adventure for everyone.” Tater Du Year 5 child
“I like the pirate ship because it has the tunnel and the windows and the steering wheel Storytelling chair – ‘it’s nice to read in the sun on it’
Wooden construction set – ‘You can make a house with them & a water track.” Longships (KS1)
“The grant funding for play equipment has enabled us to support our children in so many ways! Not only is it giving them joy, which is central to our ethos, but it is helping them develop their gross motor skills, their teamwork and skills like co-operation and social literacy. The children work together across classes and age groups ensuring diversity and inclusivity. Without the grant we would never have been able to do this, and our children have had their education and personal development enriched hugely.” Mrs E Watkins Headteacher
