£36,527.00 grant to Friends of Gwinear School for solar panels. The grant has enabled the purchase of solar panels to reduce its carbon footprint to meet a commitment to be as environmentally responsible as possible. In doing so the school sets an example to the children in its care, they can see that with correct actions we can live lives that lead to a more sustainable future. Electricity bills have more than halved and it is expected that benefits will be felt even more as we move into the time of year when solar generation is most effective.
Due to the financial pressures all schools are currently facing it would have been impossible to fund the project without the grant. For the future the school is looking at adding batteries to the system so excess electricity can be stored to benefit the community with a vehicle charging facility.
“Our school motto is ‘Inspiring Our Future’ and with the current challenges that we face globally due to climate change it is fantastic to be able to act as a role model for children and show that actions really can make a difference”. Lee Gardiner, Headteacher Gwinear School.
“I think it is really good that we are not burning fossil fuels and putting greenhouse gasses into atmosphere and polluting our world”. Jack – Year 6 pupil Gwinear School
“We have reduced our electricity bills considerably and together with our existing panels we must be close to carbon neutral in terms of electricity consumption especially in the summer.” Mrs Bode, Administrator Gwinear School.
